Winner:  1st place

Jiyoo Nam 10 (KIS)

'Gourmet' depicts a dystopian society in which bland pills have replaced the joy of food. In this world, the protagonist discovers an apple in his room, and reclaims the colors of joy. Overall, this short film can be considered a critique of modern society, in which the 'gourmet' cuisine is glorified over humble meals.

2nd place

Jae Eun Lee 11 (KIS)

"Fear Within a Ft" is a three-minute video essay in which I address my strongest emotion, fear. Collecting all the memories and reasons why fear is my strongest, I realized a point where fear is also a tapestry in life. I wanted to describe how I perceive fear. The music is divided to show the three sectors in the film. In the first fast tempo part, I expressed fear using several metaphors, including how aggressive fear can be, rushing and rushing. In the second part, I used personal anecdotes to navigate the roots of my fear. In the third portion, I showed how I have accepted and viewed fear in the present tense. The film ends with a scene where the two protagonists encourage each other. This scene is intended to bring back the line "Fear isn't a foe to be vanquished but a companion to be understood" and remind the audience of the conflict between the two characters in the line "I worry because of people, but at the end of the day, my worry makes me selfish." The protagonist represents me as someone who fears, but also as me and fear in a direct relationship.

3rd place

Ian Kim 10  (SIS)

"Dakbal" is a short film that showcases my favorite food, chicken feet, also known as dakbal. As dakbal is known to be a red, hot, and spicy dish, the protagonist in the film becomes increasingly agitated (an emotion often associated with the color red) and demands for even spicier dakbal every time his request is fulfilled. This not only highlights my obsession and love for dakbal but also serves as a reminder of human greed, as the protagonist never finds satisfaction, even until the end. The use/play of color, lighting, and camera angles are key components of my film seeks to convey and answer.
